Chimes of Bali®
This light and spirited wind chime is tuned to a musical scale called saih gender wayang from the South Pacific island of Bali, Indonesia. Originating in the playful music of the shadow puppet play, this scale comes alive with each movement of the wind.
Gamelan gender wayang is a style of music played in Bali. In 2003 UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) designated Wayang Kulit, a shadow puppet theater and the best known of the Indonesian wayang, as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity in an effort to help preserve this aspect of Indonesian heritage.
Gamelan music of Bali is also revered and preserved through Gamelan Giri Mekar, a Balinese musical group in residence at Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY, and made possible through a loan of instruments by Woodstock Chimes founder Garry Kvistad. Bring the lively sounds of South Pacific arts and theater to your home or garden with our Chimes of Bali.
